Don't Cry Over Spilled Blueberries

Our week started off on the wrong foot with Clare getting a double ear infection. She never once told me that her ear hurt; she was just in the worst mood ever and asking me to repeat EVERYTHING. Once I finally took her to the doctor, I was actually happy to know that there was something wrong, and she just hadn't propelled herself backwards into the early stages of the terrible twos.

Everything kind of came to head on Wednesday afternoon. It had been a rough couple of days, and nothing was too trivial for Clare to throw a tantrum over. I wanted to be out of the house for a bit. Foolishly, I decided to take everyone to Costco. We only needed a couple of things, and I knew that Costco has double wide carts. Both twins can sit in the front part, and Clare can walk or ride down in the actual basket. I should have left before we even got in the store. Clare threw a fit in the parking lot, Jane's seat didn't have a strap, everyone was nearing meltdown. We finally made it through the store with all of our necessities. The girls did pretty well, all things considered. I unloaded my cart and Clare decided to "help." She tried to put this large container of blueberries on the conveyor belt, and lo and behold, she dropped them. They went EVERYWHERE! I almost started crying.

Thankfully, the people were very helpful, and I made it out of the store without actually losing it. And I am even more thankful that Clare seemed to turn a corner that afternoon, and is back to usual (mostly) pleasant self.

Aside from that little incident, the girls are all doing really well. I am really starting to see them all have fun with each other. There are certain moments when I think to myself, "I don't ever want to forget this."

Like yesterday, they were all playing with a deck of cards. Clare placed them all on the trampoline and started jumping, which led to the cards "jumping" as well. Everyone was cracking up. The sound of all three of them laughing so hard is something I hope stays with me forever.

The sound of a carton of blueberries rolling to the dark recesses of Costco is something I hope I soon forget.

A Classic

We typically refer to all of Clare's "private parts" as her bottom: front bottom, back bottom, whatever.

The other day Casey is using the restroom, and Clare walks in. She is quiet for a moment, and the looks up at him and says,
"That's a crazy bottom."

Tricks at the Table

Mealtimes have always been messy with the twins. After every meal, there is enough food on the floor to feed an entire family. Sydney decided she was going to help me out by not throwing her food on the floor.

"Hey Mommy, I have an idea! I know you get tired of sweeping the floor, so..."

"...instead, I am going to put it in my hair. First, I'll put this mandarin orange..."

"...and a couple of Cheerios."

"And now, I will carefully place a graham cracker in my beautiful hair."

Forgive me for not being overly appreciative!

Having a Ball

Jane and Sydney spent most of the day at Deedee's house last Wednesday, so Clare and I could go to a fun Valentine play date. Lucky for them, she had just created her own ball pit with a swimming pool and lots of balls. It appears as though they had a great time!

Go Baby Go

It was unseasonably warm this weekend, and we took advantage by playing in our backyard. All three girls started at the sandbox, but the twins quickly wanted to explore. So, we let 'em have at it!

Jane camped out in the flower bed ( I use that term loosely), and Sydney was quick to join her.

"What is going on over there?"

And they're off..

Sydney enjoyed the slide. I enjoyed her mohawk in this picture.

Jane got a more exciting ride on the slide!

Clare spent her time "making cakes" for her baby, Dolly.

"Would you like some cake?"
The girls seemed to enjoy the outdoor time, and we got a big kick out of watching them! It won't be long before all three girls are running laps around the yard!

Parenting at It's Best, 2nd Edition

You can see the first edition here.

Yesterday we took the kids to the neighborhood park. Clare has recently discovered a little "window" in the playground that can be used, among other things, to play "take your order." Upon our arrival, she goes and sets up shop.

C: "What do you want from Taco Bell?"
Me: "I'll take two tacos and a diet coke."
C: "Do you want to make that a combo?"

How embarrassing is that?!
